Adam Driver has definitively closed the door on his Star Wars future, confirming on The Rich Eisen Show that the proposed 'Hunt for Ben Solo' film will not move forward. The actor revealed that he and director Steven Soderbergh spent several years developing the project, working with screenwriters Scott Z. Burns and Rebecca Blunt (pseudonym for Jules Asner) to produce what Driver described as "a really good" script. Despite initial support from Lucasfilm leadership, Disney studio executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman rejected the proposal, citing concerns about audience confusion given Ben Solo's death in "The Rise of Skywalker."
Driver stated plainly: "It's over. No more Star Wars. We tried to do one more, but they were like, 'No, he's dead.'" He acknowledged that Disney or Lucasfilm could theoretically resurrect the project but believes "the ship has sailed." The actor expressed that while he had always been interested in exploring the character further, the creative and commercial direction ultimately rested with studio executives, not with him or the filmmaking team.
The cancellation triggered an organized fan campaign over the past year, including billboard advertisements in Times Square and planes flown over Disney offices in Burbank carrying banners reading "Save The Hunt for Ben Solo." Driver praised the fan response as "pretty incredible," saying he was surprised by the scale of grassroots support. Soderbergh previously echoed similar sentiments about the rejection, though he indicated he was not interested in reviving the project following Disney's leadership transitions.
Driver is currently promoting his crime drama "Paper Tiger," which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in 2026. The next theatrical Star Wars release will be "Star Wars: Starfighter," directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, scheduled for May 28, 2027. Driver has also been confirmed for a significant role in an upcoming X-Men film from Marvel.

Why This Matters
A tentatively greenlit Star Wars spinoff starring and developed by Adam Driver and director Steven Soderbergh over several years has been formally cancelled by Disney executives. The decision affects planned Star Wars theatrical slate expansion and marks a shift in how the studio evaluates legacy character resurrection narratives post-sequel trilogy. Next scheduled Star Wars theatrical release remains "Starfighter" (May 28, 2027, directed by Shawn Levy, starring Ryan Gosling).
