Apple TV+ unveiled the first full teaser trailer for its upcoming science fiction series Neuromancer at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 on July 25, 2026, confirming a premiere date of January 22, 2027. The adaptation of William Gibson's landmark 1984 cyberpunk novel marks the first screen adaptation of the widely regarded but previously "unadaptable" work. Callum Turner stars as Case, a top-tier hacker drawn into a scheme involving digital espionage and corporate crime. Turner introduced the teaser via video message to Comic-Con attendees, expressing enthusiasm for bringing Gibson's foundational cyberpunk text to the screen.
The 10-episode series is created and developed by Graham Roland and JD Dillard, with Roland serving as showrunner and Dillard directing the first three episodes. The cast includes Briana Middleton as Molly, a razor-girl assassin and Case's partner; Mark Strong; Joseph Lee; Peter Sarsgaard; and Clémence Poésy, alongside supporting actors Max Irons, Dane DeHaan, Junia Rees, Jordan Kouamé, Emma Laird, Marc Menchaca, André De Shields, and Isabella Pappas. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content, with executive producers including William Gibson himself, David Levine, Garrett Kemble, and Zack Hayden. Music producers Aubrey Graham (Drake) and Adel Nur (Future) also serve as executive producers through DreamCrew Entertainment.
Roland explained the timing of the adaptation during the Comic-Con panel, noting that Gibson's novel, published 42 years prior, anticipated concepts like cyberspace and artificial intelligence before they became commonplace. "Now, we're living in a world 40 years later where these things are a part of our everyday lives," Roland said. "It's an appropriate time to revisit the text, to put it in a new light now that these things are here." He emphasized that Turner brings both danger and humanity to Case, describing the character as "an atypical protagonist"—a criminal and survivor with no family background—and highlighted Turner's depth of understanding of the source material.
The teaser footage, released on YouTube and shared across social platforms, showcases the series' visual aesthetic, including the Japanese cyberpunk setting with samurai influences, luminous visual effects, and fight sequences. The trailer incorporates the novel's opening line: "The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel." According to Apple's official description, the plot follows Case as he is "thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime" to "pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets."
The premiere structure will see the first two episodes released on January 22, 2027, with subsequent episodes rolling out weekly through March 19, 2027, completing the full 10-episode run. The series order was first issued in February 2024. No official announcements have been made regarding adaptations of Gibson's sequel novels in the Sprawl trilogy, including "Count Zero" and "Mona Lisa Overdrive."
Why This Matters
Apple TV+ confirms a major streaming release for January 2027, marking the first adaptation of a foundational 1984 science-fiction novel and delivering 10 episodes over an 8-week window. The release structure (two-episode premiere plus weekly rollout) affects subscriber engagement patterns and streaming service content calendars through Q1 2027. Production involves major music industry figures as executive producers, signaling cross-media investment in the cyberpunk genre adaptation.
