Google Launches Premium Googlebook Laptops With Android Integration

Google announced the Googlebook line of premium laptops on September 21, 2026, marking its entry into the high-end laptop market with devices starting at $899. Built in partnership with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, the five flagship models feature premium materials including aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber. All devices include 2.8K OLED touchscreens, up to 14 hours of battery life, haptic glass trackpads, backlit keyboards, and an illuminated "Glowbar" on the lid that displays battery level and custom animations. Pre-orders opened on September 21 on the Google Store, Best Buy, and select retailers, with U.S. shipments beginning October 4 and international availability (Canada, U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, Australia) on October 5.

The Googlebooks run an Android-based operating system paired with desktop elements from ChromeOS, designed specifically for seamless integration with Android phones. Key features include "Continue On" for resuming tasks across devices, "Cast My Apps" for streaming phone applications to the laptop display, and a shared file system. At launch, processors include Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon X Elite chips paired with dedicated NPUs capable of 45 TOPS of on-device AI performance. All models ship with 16GB RAM (upgradeable to 32GB on some models) and feature fanless designs for silent operation.

Google has integrated AI capabilities directly into the Googlebook experience through Gemini. The "Magic Pointer" feature allows users to wiggle their cursor to invoke Gemini assistance with on-screen content. A dictation tool called "Rambler" converts spoken thoughts into organized, formatted text. The "Create My Widget" feature generates custom desktop widgets from plain-language descriptions. Each device includes 12 months of Google AI Pro (providing 5TB cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools), plus 3 months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and other services. Google stated that devices will receive regular feature updates for up to 10 years.

The move represents Google's strategy to establish Androidphones and laptops as an integrated ecosystem comparable to Apple's iPhone-MacBook connection. Android President Sameer Samat stated that no existing laptop platform was "built to work seamlessly with your Android phone." The announcement follows Googlebook's initial reveal at Google I/O in May 2026. TechCrunch noted that Google previously indicated approximately 50 million Chromebooks exist in K-12 schools, with many potentially eligible for transition to the Googlebook experience in future updates.

Pricing varies across the five models, with the entry-level device at $899 and premium variants priced above that threshold. Bloomberg reported that Google is specifically targeting Android users and developers with these machines. All Googlebooks maintain Chromebook security features, including the Titan hardware security chip and built-in malware protection. The devices feature up to six speakers with Dolby Atmos surround sound and studio-quality background noise-canceling microphones.
