Champions League Matchday 4: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG in action

The UEFA Champions League league phase continued on 3 November 2026 with nine matches across two time slots. The primary fixtures on Tuesday included Barcelona versus Aston Villa, Atlético Madrid versus Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain versus Villarreal, alongside Manchester United against Roma, Galatasaray against Stuttgart, and Shakhtar Donetsk against Sporting Lisbon.

Matches were scheduled at 17:45 and 20:00 GMT (or 14:45 and 17:00 Argentine time). Key performances included Galatasaray taking an early lead against Stuttgart through goals in the opening fifteen minutes, while Sporting Lisbon opened their account against Shakhtar Donetsk at the 59-minute mark. Argentine players featured prominently across several fixtures: Lisandro Martínez appeared as a substitute for Manchester United following a recent two-match ban; Leonardo Balerdi and Matías Soulé started for Roma; Julián Álvarez and Giuliano Simeone began for Atlético Madrid; and Emiliano Buendía featured in Aston Villa's lineup.

In the wider context, Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain occupied top positions in the league standings after three matches with 9 points each, while Liverpool and Real Madrid also remained undefeated on 9 points. Barcelona held 6 points from three matches, with Bayern Munich on 5 points and Atlético Madrid on 4 points. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery returned to Camp Nou, site of PSG's historic 6-1 Champions League comeback victory in 2017, acknowledging that VAR would have altered that match's outcome. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig manager Martín Demichelis previewed Wednesday's fixture against Manchester City, highlighting his close personal relationship with City interim coach Enzo Maresca, describing them as childhood friends and former neighbours in Spain.

Wednesday's matchday featured Real Madrid visiting AEK Athens and Fenerbahçe hosting Liverpool in the 20:45 time slot, with eight additional fixtures at 23:00 GMT (20:00 Argentine time). The league phase continued its format with all 36 clubs competing in a single standings, with matches broadcast across ESPN, Fox Sports, Disney+, and BBC channels depending on region.
