Bayern Munich beats Atlético Madrid 2-0 in Champions League Round 4

Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 away victory against Atlético Madrid on November 3, 2026, in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid. The Bavarian side controlled large portions of the match despite operating without several key players, including injured head coach Vincent Kompany and absentees Jamal Musiala, Luis Díaz, Serge Gnabry, and Ismael Saibari.

The opening goal came in the 54th minute after a defensive error by Atlético Madrid defender Robin Le Normand, who hesitated with the ball in the penalty area. Bayern's Lennart Kahl capitalized on the loose possession to score. The second goal arrived in the 74th minute when Konrad Laimer received a pass from Harry Kane and fired a powerful shot into the net. Bayern's assistant coach Aaron Danks, standing in for the hospitalized Kompany, saw his team convert limited opportunities into a decisive victory.

Atlético Madrid, led by Diego Simeone, struggled to break through Bayern's tactical setup and rarely threatened goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The home side's counter-attacking strategy yielded few dangerous chances, with Julian Alvarez the main attacking outlet. Atlético's midfielder Giovanni Simeone and forward Kang-In Lee were introduced as substitutes to shift the dynamic, but neither could spark a comeback.

Bayern had a third goal disallowed in the 80th minute following a VAR review, which identified an infraction by defender Dayot Upamecano. Despite the numerical disparity in absences—Bayern missing five outfield players plus their head coach—the German club moved to eight points in the league phase standings. Atlético remained at four points and fell to 22nd place after their second defeat of the competition.
