Saudi Prince Dies in London Hotel After Drug and Alcohol Overdose
A 29-year-old Saudi prince was found dead in his London hotel room in November 2025 after consuming a lethal combination of alcohol, GHB, and Xanax. An inquest in July 2026 ruled his death accidental, caused by cardiac arrest from the drug and alcohol cocktail, and found no evidence of suicide or foul play.
Quick Facts
- Saudi prince found dead in hotel bathroom
- Inquest ruled death by misadventure
- Toxicology report confirmed multi-drug ingestion
- Cardiac arrest determined as cause of death
- No evidence of third-party involvement or suicide

Abdullah bin Fahad bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Jalawi al Saud, 29, a member of the Saudi royal family descended from the great-great-grandfather of King Salman, was found dead in his fifth-floor bathroom at the Marriott Hotel in Kensington, London, on November 25, 2025. A hotel cleaner discovered him fully clothed on the bathroom floor of his £600-per-night room. Despite immediate efforts by hotel security and paramedics, he could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An inquest at Inner West London Coroner's Court, concluded in July 2026, determined that the prince died from cardiac arrest caused by a combination of drugs and alcohol. Toxicology reports revealed he had a blood alcohol concentration of 222mg per 100ml of blood—nearly three times the UK drink-drive limit of 80mg and in a range capable of causing coma. He also had potentially fatal levels of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), traces of cannabis, alprazolam (Xanax) in recreational doses, and other anti-anxiety medications in therapeutic doses.
The prince had sought treatment for substance abuse prior to his death. He was an inpatient at the Priory Clinic in Roehampton in August 2025, where he underwent detoxification from alcohol, benzodiazepines, and pregabalin at a cost of up to £35,000 per week. Consultant psychiatrist Dr. Victoria Chamorro stated he "engaged well" in treatment, which "proceeded without physical side effects," and that he was "supportive and kind to his peers." After discharge, he was later treated at Rainford Hall clinic in St. Helens, Merseyside, and recovered from an upper respiratory tract infection before leaving on October 14. However, he subsequently failed to attend scheduled Zoom follow-up appointments.
Assistant Coroner Jean Harkin recorded a verdict of death by misadventure, concluding the prince did not intend to take his life. Neither recovery facility raised concerns about suicide risk, the prince left no note, and CCTV footage showed he was alone the night before his death, with no evidence of third-party involvement. The coroner found no acute or chronic illnesses in the post-mortem examination.
Why This Matters
The death of a senior Saudi royal family member in a foreign jurisdiction triggers investigation protocols across UK and Saudi institutions, affecting consular procedures, medical liability frameworks, and substance abuse treatment protocols at UK rehabilitation facilities. The inquest's findings—particularly regarding aftercare compliance gaps at treatment facilities—may influence how private addiction clinics structure follow-up monitoring for high-risk patients and inform discussions around duty of care standards in cross-border royal cases.
