Samsung launches Galaxy Z Fold 8 with new wide design, pricing hits $1,899
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 at its July 2026 Unpacked event in London. The Z Fold 8 introduces a new wide design optimized for media, while prices have risen due to component shortages, with the standard Fold starting at $1,899 and the Ultra at $2,099.
Quick Facts
- Launched Galaxy Z Fold 8 with new wide form factor
- Unveiled Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with tablet-style design
- Released Galaxy Z Flip 8 with processor upgrade
- Introduced Flex Titanium display technology
- Refreshed Galaxy Watch lineup with Snapdragon Wear Elite

Samsung unveiled its 2026 foldable lineup at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, introducing three distinct models. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 marks a significant design shift toward a wider form factor optimized for media consumption rather than multitasking. When unfolded, its 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display achieves a 4:3 aspect ratio, reducing black bars when watching widescreen video. The 5.5-inch cover display adopts a 10:16 ratio. The device weighs 201 grams and measures 4.5mm unfolded. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, features dual 50MP rear cameras, and includes a 4,800 mAh battery supporting 45W wired and 20W wireless charging. Starting at $1,899, it will be available August 7 in lavender, graphite, cream, and pistachio.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra maintains the tablet-style form factor of previous generations but with enhanced specifications. Its 8-inch main display and 6.5-inch cover screen both use Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology at 120Hz. The Ultra measures 4.1mm unfolded—the thinnest Samsung foldable to date—and weighs 215 grams. It houses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a larger 5,000 mAh battery with 45W wired and 20W wireless charging, and a triple rear camera setup (200MP wide, 50MP ultra-wide, 10MP telephoto). Pricing begins at $2,099.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 receives modest updates, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 replacing the Exynos 2500 of its predecessor. It retains the 6.9-inch main display and 4.1-inch cover screen but is now slightly thinner at 6.1mm unfolded and weighs 180 grams. The cover display offers improved gesture controls and app drawer access. Battery capacity remains 4,300 mAh with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. The Flip 8 starts at $1,199, representing a $100 price increase from the Flip 7.
All three models feature Samsung's new Flex Titanium display technology, combining a titanium alloy film with reinforced titanium backing to reduce the fold crease visibility. The devices run Android 17 with One UI 9 and will launch August 7. Samsung also refreshed its Galaxy Watch lineup with the new Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, offering 44mm and 40mm models with up to 30 hours battery life with always-on display enabled.
Why This Matters
Samsung's foldable lineup introduces measurable design and spec changes affecting the premium smartphone market segment. The Z Fold 8's wider 4:3 aspect ratio targets media consumption use cases; pricing increases reflect component cost pressures. Launch dates (preorders active; availability August 7) and regional availability (Russia via Sitiliink confirmed) establish competing timelines with Apple's rumored foldable entry. Component supply constraints and processor upgrades (Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5) cascade through device performance and margin expectations for Samsung's high-value product category.
