- Z Fold8 introduced with new passport-shaped form factor for content consumption
- Z Flip8 emphasized portability and thin/light design

Samsung unveiled three new foldable smartphones on July 22, 2026, at Galaxy Unpacked in London: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. Each device targets different user needs—productivity, content consumption, and portability respectively.
The Z Fold8 Ultra features an 8-inch main display and 6.5-inch cover screen, positioned as Samsung's premium productivity device with a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto lens. The new Z Fold8 introduces a "passport-shaped" form factor with a 4:3 aspect ratio inner display (7.6 inches) and 10:16 cover screen (5.5 inches), designed for video and social media consumption. The Z Flip8 maintains the clamshell design with a 6.9-inch inner screen and 4.1-inch cover display, emphasizing portability at just 180 grams and 6.1mm unfolded thickness.
All three phones feature Samsung's Flex Titanium display technology, which integrates a titanium-alloy film beneath the OLED and a titanium plate base to enhance durability by approximately 20 times, reduce visible creases, and minimize thickness without compromising flexibility. Devices share Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with 120Hz refresh rates and up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, IP48 water and dust resistance, and 45-watt fast charging (Flip8: 25-watt). New battery technology using silicon-carbon allows denser cells with smaller physical footprint.
Pricing starts at $1,199 for the Z Flip8, $1,899 for the Z Fold8, and $2,099 for the Z Fold8 Ultra. In Indonesia, prices begin at 19,999,000 IDR (Flip8), 28,499,000 IDR (Fold8), and 32,499,000 IDR (Fold8 Ultra). Pre-orders opened July 22, 2026, with availability beginning in August. The launch comes two months before Apple's expected September release of its foldable iPhone, intensifying competition in the emerging foldable smartphone market where Samsung currently holds approximately 40% global market share.
Why This Matters
Samsung's three-model foldable launch expands the addressable market across productivity, multimedia, and portability segments ahead of Apple's anticipated foldable iPhone in September 2026. The Flex Titanium display technology—offering 20× durability improvement and reduced crease visibility—directly addresses the primary durability and longevity concerns that have constrained foldable smartphone adoption. With pricing between $1,199–$2,099 and global market share near 40%, this launch affects component suppliers (display manufacturers, processor vendors), retail distribution partners, and consumer electronics markets where foldable adoption rates will influence second-half 2026 smartphone segment performance.
