ANA Boeing 737 makes emergency landing in Naha after right engine trouble

All Nippon Airways flight 1502, a Boeing 737 operating from Naha to Saga on the evening of September 23, 2026, experienced right engine trouble during flight and returned to Naha Airport for an emergency landing at approximately 10:05 p.m. The aircraft had departed Naha at approximately 8:30 p.m. and was diverted after pilots detected elevated oil temperature in the right engine during climb. The flight was a substitute service arranged after cancellation of a regular Fukuoka-bound flight; it was routed to Saga instead of Fukuoka because the late arrival would exceed Fukuoka Airport's operating hours.

After landing, all 158 passengers and crew members evacuated via emergency slides on the taxiway. Three passengers sustained minor injuries, described as abrasions and cuts, during the evacuation process. The aircraft carried four infants among its passengers. No fire or smoke was detected during or after the emergency landing.

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism designated the incident as a serious incident. The Transport Safety Board appointed two aviation accident investigators to conduct the investigation. ANA stated that all occupants evacuated safely and no serious injuries occurred.
