The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 on Wednesday night in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series, extending their series lead to 3-0 and moving one win away from their first World Series appearance since 1982. A decisive seventh-inning offensive surge, sparked by back-to-back home runs from Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell off two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, turned a one-run deficit into a commanding lead.
The game began explosively when Jackson Chourio homered off Snell's first pitch before most fans had reached their seats. However, Snell dominated through six innings, retiring 14 consecutive batters and striking out nine while keeping the Dodgers in contention. The Dodgers briefly took the lead 2-1 in the sixth inning on Will Smith's two-run double off reliever Abner Uribe, who had walked three consecutive batters to load the bases.
The turning point came in the seventh when Andrew Vaughn drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by Christian Yelich as a pinch runner. Bauers worked an 11-pitch at-bat against Snell, fouling off multiple pitches before connecting on a 412-foot home run that gave Milwaukee a 3-2 lead. Garrett Mitchell followed immediately with a 428-foot home run off Snell, effectively ending the pitcher's night and extending the Brewers' advantage to 4-2. The Brewers added two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
The two-time defending World Series champion Dodgers now face elimination in Game 4 on Thursday at Dodger Stadium. Only once in franchise history had Los Angeles trailed 3-0 in a best-of-seven postseason series, when they were swept by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1966 World Series. Manager Dave Roberts, who was a member of the 2004 Boston Red Sox team that came back from 3-0 down against the New York Yankees, acknowledged the difficulty while noting the comeback was "certainly possible." Only one team in MLB history—the 2004 Red Sox—has successfully overturned a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series.
The Dodgers' offensive struggles continued despite their star-laden lineup. Shohei Ohtani, batting in the sixth position (his lowest spot since joining Los Angeles), went 1 for 2 with a walk. The team has yet to hit a home run in the NLCS. Brewers starting pitcher Robert Gasser was efficient through five scoreless innings before the bullpen took over, with DL Hall and Trevor Megill combining to secure the victory.

Why This Matters
The Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from reaching their first World Series since 1982, while the defending two-time champion Los Angeles Dodgers face elimination in Game 4. Only once in MLB history—the 2004 Boston Red Sox—has a team successfully overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series, making the Dodgers' path to advancing historically difficult but not unprecedented. The outcome affects playoff schedules, broadcast revenue, and team roster decisions for the offseason.
