Avengers: Doomsday trailer reveals Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom

Marvel Studios released the first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday on July 20, 2026, providing the public's first full look at the film. The trailer depicts a multiverse crossover involving heroes from three distinct universes: Earth-616 (the main Marvel Cinematic Universe), Earth-828 (the Fantastic Four's universe), and the X-Men timeline. The central antagonist is Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., who had previously portrayed Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU.

The trailer shows Doctor Doom as a formidable adversary, effortlessly blocking a lightning strike from Thor (Chris Hemsworth) with his fingertip. Thor is seen rallying various superhero teams, telling them to "put aside petty squabbles" and unite against the threat. The clip concludes with Thor reuniting with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who returns to the franchise after his departure in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Thor asks Rogers to lift his hammer Mjölnir to prove his identity.

Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The film is scheduled for worldwide release on December 18, 2026, with ticket sales now open. Moviegoers will also be able to experience the film in INFINITY VISION, a new certification for Premium Large Format cinemas.

The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz.

The trailer confirms connections to previous MCU films, including the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts*, which showed the Fantastic Four's ship Excelsior entering Earth's atmosphere. It also features characters from Fox's X-Men movies, including Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Kelsey Grammer as Beast.
