Fiorentina 1-1 Napoli: Gilmour goal, Jiménez equalizer in Serie A

Fiorentina and Napoli drew 1-1 in a Serie A match on 20 September 2026 at Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, in the fifth round of the 2026-27 season. Billy Gilmour gave Napoli the lead in the 23rd minute from a corner kick, firing past goalkeeper David De Gea. Álex Jiménez equalized for Fiorentina in the 51st minute after receiving a pass from Ndour; his shot was deflected by Napoli defender Rafa Marín. Serie A officially credited the goal to Jiménez rather than as an own goal.

The result leaves Napoli on 7 points and Fiorentina on 4 points after five matches. Fiorentina, managed by Paolo Vanoli, improved their position after a difficult start to the season that saw predecessor Fabio Grosso sacked following three consecutive defeats. The Viola have since won 4-2 against Venezia and drawn with Napoli. Napoli, managed by Massimiliano Allegri, pressed for a winner in the second half but were unable to break through Fiorentina's defense, with De Gea making decisive saves.

Vanoli praised the team's reaction after falling behind, stating "Napoli are a strong side, they're coming off a Scudetto and a second-place finish. We faced the game with courage." He highlighted young forward Franco Mastantuono's performance and character, noting the player's willingness to make sacrificial runs and praise teammates rather than focus solely on personal achievement. Vanoli described such behavior as a sign of a champion and predicted Mastantuono would "go far" in his career.
