Harry Kane set a new Bundesliga record on Friday, becoming the fastest player to reach 100 league goals in just 98 appearances for Bayern Munich. The England captain achieved the milestone with a 39th-minute penalty during Bayern's 7–0 victory over Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena in Matchday 4 of the 2026–27 season.

Kane's record surpassed the previous mark held by Dieter Müller, who needed 129 matches to reach 100 goals for Cologne in 1977—a gap of 31 games. Since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in summer 2023, Kane has maintained an exceptional scoring rate of one goal every 78.5 minutes in the Bundesliga, better than peers Erling Haaland (87 minutes), Robert Lewandowski (100 minutes), and Gerd Müller (105 minutes).

Kane scored twice in the match: the penalty in the 39th minute made it 2–0, and a headed goal in the 54th minute extended Bayern's lead to 4–0. Jamal Musiala opened the scoring in the 18th minute, while Michael Olise, who won the penalty that led to Kane's record-breaking goal, netted a hat-trick (43rd, 73rd, 76th minutes). Ismael Saibari also scored in the 70th minute. The dominant performance gave Bayern 10 points through four matches, topping the Bundesliga table ahead of the international break.

Kane, now 33, has scored 152 goals in 154 total appearances for Bayern since 2023, placing him seventh on the club's all-time scoring list. He has won the Bundesliga's top-scorer award (Torjägerkanone) for three consecutive seasons and remains a leading contender for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 26 October in London.

Why This Matters

Kane's record milestone reflects Bayern Munich's attacking dominance in the 2026–27 Bundesliga season and his sustained scoring efficiency since joining from Tottenham in 2023. The 7–0 victory placed Bayern atop the league table after four matches; Kane's individual achievement positions him as a top Ballon d'Or candidate ahead of the October awards ceremony. The record has measurable competitive implications for Bayern's title prospects and Kane's personal accolades and contract valuation.
