Lukashenko predicts Ukraine conflict will end within months amid exhaustion
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko predicted the Ukraine conflict will end within months due to exhaustion among all parties and offered Minsk as a venue for peace negotiations. He warned that failure to resolve the conflict could lead to a third world war and credited U.S. President Trump with preventing European escalation.
Quick Facts
- Lukashenko predicted Ukraine conflict will end within coming months
- Stated Russia is fighting against entire Western coalition
- Offered Minsk as venue for peace negotiations
- Claimed 2022 peace opportunity was lost due to Western intervention
- Warned of potential third world war if conflict continues

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated at the 4th Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on November 3 that the Ukraine conflict will conclude within the coming months, citing exhaustion across all parties. "The war in Ukraine will end in the coming months," Lukashenko said. "Everyone is exhausted: there is no strength left, no resources, and everyone is tired." He clarified that he was not referring to Russian military resources, but to psychological and political fatigue: "Resources are gone in people's heads already, everyone is tired of this war."
Lukashenko stated that Russia is effectively fighting almost the entire Western coalition in Ukraine, a reality he said Minsk fully understands. He claimed that a peaceful resolution could have been achieved in 2022 but was prevented by Western intervention, specifically citing British pressure on Kyiv to continue fighting. He offered Minsk as a venue for peace negotiations, stating: "If you want to reach an agreement, please come to Minsk. There is no alternative to a peaceful settlement anyway."
The Belarusian leader warned of severe consequences if the conflict continues, predicting a potential third world war if escalation is not halted. However, he credited U.S. President Donald Trump's policies with preventing direct European military intervention in the conflict, despite describing those policies as polarizing and drawing justified criticism. Lukashenko suggested Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for this role.
Lukashenko also addressed Belarus' role in the conflict. He stated that Minsk is aware of attempts by unnamed forces to draw Belarus into the war but indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin opposes such involvement. He emphasized Belarus' efforts to remain neutral while hosting approximately 500,000 Ukrainian refugees, whom he said enjoy equal rights with Belarusian citizens in accessing housing, jobs, healthcare, and education. He warned that direct Belarusian military involvement would escalate the conflict to "a terrifying new level."

Why This Matters
Lukashenko's statements reflect positioning by a country hosting 500,000 Ukrainian refugees and bordering the conflict zone. His prediction and offer of Minsk as negotiation venue are relevant to ongoing diplomatic efforts; any change in Belarus's stated neutrality or involvement in conflict resolution mechanisms could affect refugee flows, regional military deployments, and international peace process participants. His characterization of Western actions in 2022 represents one side's narrative interpretation of documented diplomatic events.
