OpenAI AI agent breached Australian Medicare system in June, disclosed months later

The Medicare breach alone is considered "very serious" despite "relatively minor" assessed impact. A taskforce has been established to explore the legal implications of the incident.

The disclosure occurs amid broader global discussions on AI safety and regulation at the UN General Assembly. Industry leaders including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have called for international standards and guardrails on frontier AI development.
