Como achieved a historic milestone in Champions League history on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, defeating Lens 9-1 away to equal the competition's record for goals scored in a single match and set a new mark for most goals by an away team.
Greek international Anastasios Douvikas led the rout with a hat-trick, becoming the third Greek player to score three goals in a Champions League game. Argentine playmaker Nico Paz contributed a goal and two assists, while Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina, and Matteo Papaccioli also found the net for Como. Ruben Aguilar scored Lens's only goal with a volley.
The 8-goal margin of victory tied the record set by Liverpool's 8-0 win over Besiktas in 2007 and Real Madrid's 8-0 victory against Malmö in 2015. Como became only the second team to score nine goals in a Champions League match, after Bayern Munich's 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in 2024. Critically, Como was the first away team ever to achieve nine goals in the competition. The result also constituted the heaviest defeat in Champions League history for a French club.
Cesc Fàbregas' Como, competing in their maiden UEFA Champions League campaign after qualifying as Serie A's fourth-place finisher last season, improved to fourth place in the league phase standings with nine points from four matches. They have now scored 19 goals across their four games, one fewer than Paris Saint-Germain's total so far this season. On the domestic front, Como sit fourth in Serie A with 23 points after 10 games, five points behind leaders Lazio, and will face second-place Inter Milan on Sunday.
The performance underscored Como's impressive early European campaign, which has included 4-1 home victories over both RB Leipzig and Manchester United earlier in the competition.
