Chinese FM Wang Yi meets Egypt's National Security Council secretary-general in New Delhi

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Secretary-General of Egypt's National Security Council Youssef Alaa El-Deen in New Delhi on June 23, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations. Wang, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, emphasized that this year represents the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, presenting an opportunity to deepen bilateral ties.

During the meeting, Wang outlined China's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Egypt across multiple dimensions. He stressed the importance of maintaining close high-level exchanges, enhancing political mutual trust, advancing practical cooperation, and strengthening multilateral coordination. Wang noted that as important members of the Global South, China and Egypt share extensive common ground in international and regional affairs and bear significant responsibilities in maintaining international and regional stability. He proposed enhanced cooperation on multilateral platforms including BRICS and the United Nations, with the goal of safeguarding the independence and strength of the Global South while promoting multipolarity.

El-Deen reciprocated China's commitment, characterizing China as Egypt's true friend and partner. He affirmed Egypt's firm support for the one-China principle and opposition to interference in China's internal affairs. El-Deen stated Egypt's intention to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen practical cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative, the BRICS mechanism, and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. He emphasized that the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries is well-founded and has produced significant results.

A substantial portion of the dialogue focused on Middle Eastern affairs. El-Deen briefed Wang on recent developments and Egypt's mediation efforts under a four-party mechanism, while commending China's role in promoting cessation of hostilities and peace. Wang reiterated China's principled position that regional disputes should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation rather than force or threats of force. He highlighted the importance of jointly upholding and implementing the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, and stressed that despite potential disruptions and setbacks in negotiations, the door to peace should remain open. Wang concluded by pledging China's continued communication with Egypt and commitment to promoting peace talks through various channels to contribute to regional peace and stability.
