Death toll rises to 2 in attack on Saudi airport in Dammam

An attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, on the evening of October 21, 2026, has killed two people and injured eight others, according to Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). The fatalities include one Saudi citizen and one Indian national. Among the eight injured are two Indian nationals, two Yemeni citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one Nepalese national. Injuries range from minor to critical, with all wounded receiving medical treatment at hospitals in the region.

The incident is the latest in an escalating series of attacks on Saudi infrastructure attributed to Yemen's Houthi group. Earlier on the same day, two people were killed when air defences intercepted a drone attempting to strike the Shaybah oilfield operated by Saudi Aramco. The US State Department subsequently ordered the departure of non-emergency diplomatic personnel and family members from its missions in Saudi Arabia and other regional locations.

Airport operations have resumed to normal following the attack. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed the involvement of Indian nationals among the casualties and stated it is in contact with affected families. GACA is coordinating with security authorities to assess damage and implement measures to ensure passenger and staff safety.
