The United States and Canada meet in an international friendly on October 6, 2026, at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as both nations prepare for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The match concludes an extended international break following the 2026 World Cup.

The USMNT arrives with three consecutive victories under manager Mauricio Pochettino, including a 3–0 defeat of Mexico, a 4–2 win over Chile, and a 4–1 victory against Peru. The team has scored 11 goals across three matches and remains undefeated. Notable performances include Julian Hall, 18, scoring in three consecutive matches, and Cavan Sullivan becoming the youngest American male player to score for the national team. Pochettino has utilized eight teenage players during this window, equal to the total used in the entire previous World Cup cycle.

Canada arrives with two consecutive wins under Jesse Marsch: a 1–0 victory over Chile and a 2–0 defeat of Peru, in which Jacob Shaffelburg scored both goals. The Canadian team has not conceded in any of its three recent victories. Marsch holds a 2–0 record against the USMNT since taking charge, including a 2–1 win in the 2025 Concacaf Nations League third-place match. However, Cyle Larin and Tajon Buchanan are unavailable for Canada.

The rivalry between the nations spans over a century, with the first meeting in 1925. The USMNT holds a record of 17 victories, 12 defeats, and 13 draws in all competitions. This match marks the first meeting since Canada's 2–1 victory on March 23, 2025, in the Concacaf Nations League. Canada has advanced significantly since its 1986 World Cup appearance, qualifying consecutively for the 2022 and 2026 tournaments and reaching the round of 16 in 2026 before losing to Morocco.

The match will be broadcast on ESPN 2 (and ESPN 4 in some markets) and available via Disney+ Premium. Kickoff is scheduled for 20:00 ET / 19:00 CT / 17:00 PT.

Why This Matters

Both teams are preparing for 2030 FIFA World Cup qualification after competing in 2026. The USMNT has scored 11 goals in three matches under Mauricio Pochettino and integrated eight teenage players in this window; Canada has won twice without conceding under Jesse Marsch. The friendly provides tactical assessment and development time before qualification begins, while Canada's two-match winning streak against the USMNT (including a 2–1 Nations League victory in 2025) raises competitive stakes in what historically has been an evenly contested rivalry.
