"Stargazing," which dominated UK charts in 2024, exemplifies Smith's sonic approach: anthemic vocals with shouts and claps layered over an irresistible chorus that echoes 2010s pop-rock sensibilities while fitting comfortably within the recent folk-pop renaissance. The opening track, "My Mess," immediately signals the album's introspective turn, with Smith singing over guitars and mandolin about being "born into a fractured family."
