Celtic defeat Besiktas 3-2 in Europa League, secure first points

Celtic secured their first three points of the Europa League group stage with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Besiktas at Celtic Park on November 5, 2026. The Scottish side came from behind twice to claim the win, with Camilo Duran scoring twice—in the 78th and 87th minutes—and Osman adding a goal in the 62nd minute. Besiktas took the lead through Junior Olaitan's penalty conversion in the 54th minute, and Orkun Kökçü equalized at 2-2 with a well-struck effort in the 86th minute, but Celtic's second-half dominance ultimately decided the contest.

Before the match, Celtic had won only one point from their opening four games, placing them bottom of the 36-team league phase standings with a goal difference of minus-6. By contrast, Besiktas arrived unbeaten on seven points after three draws and one win. The match saw several notable player connections: former Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu and ex-Rangers players Václav Černý and Rıdvan Yılmaz represented Besiktas in Glasgow.

The first half remained goalless as both teams created chances but failed to convert. Besiktas' penalty in the second half gave them the advantage, but Celtic's coordinated attacking play—aided in part by a defensive error from Agbadou—allowed them to turn the match around. Duran's late brace proved decisive. With this result, Celtic moved to three points while Besiktas remained on seven, ending their unbeaten run in the competition. German referee Sascha Stegemann oversaw the encounter.
