The stage adaptation of David Nicholls' acclaimed 2009 novel 'One Day' will open in London's West End this autumn, following a preview run at Edinburgh's Lyceum Theatre. The musical tells the story of Emma and Dexter's long-term relationship, chronicled across multiple years as the couple grow from students into adults, set each year on St Swithin's Day (15 July).
The production features an accomplished creative team led by director Max Webster. The score is by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of Johnnyswim, with additional material by Jeremy Sams, while the book is penned by David Greig. The design team includes set and costume designer Rae Smith, lighting designer Bruno Poet, and sound designer Simon Baker, with choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille.
Jamie Muscato, a WhatsOnStage and Olivier Award nominee, will reprise his role as Dexter, while Sharon Rose, identified as a name to watch in 2026, returns as Emma. The pair were first announced in the roles last July. Producers Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska of Melting Pot expressed confidence in the project, noting that the story has resonated with millions worldwide and describing the production as 'very special.'
The musical will run at the Garrick Theatre from 17 November, with booking through 14 March 2026. Tickets are already on sale. The stage adaptation follows a 2011 film and a well-received 2024 Netflix series based on the source material.
