Beşiktaş will host Olympique de Marseille in their UEFA Europa League league-phase opener on 17 September 2026 at Tüpraş Stadium in Istanbul. The match kicks off at 19:00 UK time (22:00 Turkey time, 16:00 Brasília time) and marks the first competitive meeting between the two clubs. Italian referee Andrea Colombo will officiate.

Beşiktaş enter the fixture in strong form. The Turkish side has won their last three Super Lig matches, scoring 11 goals across victories against Erzurum BB, Fenerbahçe, and Yeni Çorumspor. In European qualifying, Beşiktaş won five of six matches and remain unbeaten at home in European competition this season, having not conceded a goal across three home European fixtures. Manager Vincenzo Italiano brings significant recent European experience to the dugout, having guided Fiorentina to back-to-back UEFA Conference League finals in 2023 and 2024. This is Beşiktaş's 265th match in European competition.

Marseille arrive under considerable pressure. The French side has suffered three consecutive Ligue 1 defeats, losing to Rennes, Paris FC, and Monaco. Manager Bruno Genesio acknowledged the scale of the challenge, stating he experienced the intense atmosphere at Tüpraş in 2017 when managing Lyon—a quarterfinal tie Lyon ultimately won 7–6 on penalties. Genesio described Beşiktaş as "one of the best teams in this tournament," praising their balance across midfield, attack, and defence. Brazilian forward Igor Paixão will make his Europa League debut for Marseille; he recorded eight appearances, four goals, and one assist in last season's Champions League before joining the French club.

This opening fixture is part of a transformed Europa League format featuring a 36-team league phase, replacing the traditional group stage. Beşiktaş qualified after navigating three grueling qualifying rounds. The match will be broadcast on CazéTV in Brazil and Prime Video internationally.

Why This Matters

Beşiktaş and Marseille open their UEFA Europa League league-phase campaigns on 17 September 2026, the first of 36 teams competing in the restructured format replacing traditional group stages. The result affects both teams' qualification prospects in a compressed schedule; Beşiktaş enters with strong domestic and home European form (5 of 6 European qualifying wins, zero home goals conceded this season), while Marseille seek to halt a three-match Ligue 1 losing streak. Broadcast coverage spans CazéTV (Brazil) and Prime Video (international), reaching multiple markets.
